The same measures were 21.6 percent and 23.9 percent lower respectively in overweight men. Check that out. I had to read it a few times v/a compilations to ensure I was reading it correctly, but there it is. One of the study's authors notes that a low BMI might be due to "healthy lifestyle" or a chronic illness. But while the author says nothing about what a high BMI might imply, the AP just jumps to the conclusion for us: Beer bellies may take a toll on men below the belt, not just around it. |

| But here is the worst part: this isn't even a scientific study, and it's getting play in the media. In the study, University of North Carolina endocrinologist Dr. Joyce Harp and student Lindsay Hecht used statistics on the NFL Web site to calculate BMIs for 2,168 NFL players, nearly all those playing in fiction mystery/ detective the 2003-04 season. Well, shoot, I can do that. Anyone reading can do that! But why did something with such an incredibly - and fiction mystery/ detective I mean incredibly flawed "methodology" make it to the media? I suspect it's because fiction mystery/ detective just about anything related to fat in any way, showing how "rampant" it is, will make the cut. I'm ashamed to see this in print, frankly. It's sad.
