His research interest is the role of essential and other fatty acids in health and disease, cardiovascular risk, pregnancy, and early celadrin human development. He has published several papers on these topics. In 1980, Hornstra joined the celadrin Biochemical Department of Maastricht University where, as a senior scientist, he continued research on the role of dietary lipids in cardiovascular disease. In 1989, he switched to the Department of Human Biology, where he investigated bioregulatory aspects of nutrients and non-nutrients, first as associate professor of nutritional biochemistry, and then as professor of experimental nutrition. |
